  • Excursion to Kremsmünster Abbey forestry company in the Almtal
    Kremsmünster Abbey is one of the few private forest companies in Austria that is run by a female forest graduate - Birgit Stöhr. The forest operation covers an area of approx. 10,200 hectares (5,200 hectares of forest, the rest of unproductive land and water bodies). The 8 forest districts range from 350 meters above sea level to the high mountains. Spruce stocks dominate in the original locations, mixed with larch and fir, as well as deciduous and noble deciduous trees which had been planted after storm hazards. The mountain forests consist primarily of spruce and beech. Next to Birgit Stöhr, five forest workers are employed at the Abbey.
